Several year-round staff members create the foundation for Southeast Wise Women throughout the year, supported by dozens more seasonal staff members during the months leading up to the conference. The staff at Southeast Wise Women all share a passion for herbs, nutrition, women's empowerment and self-love, and simple, low-earth-impact living.
Corinna Wood, Director
Founder and director of Southeast Wise Women, Corinna Wood is a Wise Woman herbalist, a powerful visionary, and a beloved teacher. Corinna weaves her passion for honoring women and the Earth into all aspects of the Southeast Wise Women programs. In 1994, Corinna co-founded Red Moon Herbs, an herbal company that focuses on making medicines from fresh, local plants--the Wise Woman Way. In 2005, she started the Southeast Wise Women's Herbal Conference. Over the last two decades, Corinna has taught hundreds of classes in herbal medicine, women's health and natural healing--including the renowned Herbal Immersion. Today, Corinna lives with her son at Earthaven Ecovillage, an intentional community in Black Mountain, NC, where the Southeast Wise Women headquarters are based.
Ema Carmona, Event Coordinator
Ema came to work with Southeast Wise Women the inaugural year of the conference, and has coordinated the event every year since. As head of customer service, communications, budget, and much, much more, she is the level head when things get tough, and the woman with the smile and kind words each morning. Ema shies away from the spotlight, so if you want to see her at the conference, you'll need to seek her out at the Info Hub or catch her as she zooms through camp solving problems and making new friends. Ema and her husband David moved to western NC to embark on a journey of homesteading, raising kids, and simplified living. Thirteen years and three kids later, the Carmona family lives in the house they built on the land they love, nestled in a rural community south of Black Mountain.
Renee Conover, Programming Coordinator
Ten years ago, when Renee and her husband returned from years of traveling in India & Asia, they landed at Earthaven Ecovillage, where they first met Corinna Wood. Renee was blessed to have been Corinna's apprentice at Red Moon Herbs when the SEWW Herbal Conference was first conceived. From that very first year, with 250 women, until now, with over 1200 women in attendance, Renee has coordinated site logistics. Her work has evolved ino a year-round job, overseeing the programming and production of the event. Behind the scenes, she weaves the flow of women at the conference: from the class schedule to parking, from the teachers to the 200+ work exchangers . . . she glows when she hears the words, "It all seemed to flow so smoothly!" Renee is an herbalist and a mother, and loves to grow and cook nourishing foods.
Carmen Lescher, Operations and Outreach Coordinator
Carmen Lescher has been working with Southeast Wise Women for over five years. Formerly the production manager of Red Moon Herbs, she has a deep love of herbs, wild medicinals and medicine making. She is also passionate about local, nourishing foods and has owned and operated a pasture-based poultry farm. Carmen lives and works at Earthaven Ecovillage.
